August 2019 update:

Hey all! I know it’s been a while, but figured that I was much overdue for an update.

After an internship at Tenable Cyber Security last Summer doing big data management, I packed up for my final year of undergrad at Penn State. Academically, I achieved dean’s list, professionally, I was lauded top 5% in ROTC, and extracurricularly, I achieved 3rd of 36 fraternities (a 25 spot jump from the previous year) in contributions as the Philanthropy Chair of Delta Chi. I was classed 63AX as an Acquisitions Manager in the Air Force and given my first assignment working with the Space program in Los Angeles, California.

I was then contacted and told that this assignment had been delayed and that I had been selected for a program called Gold Bars that I had applied to in late Fall. This means that I will be one of 21 “Gold Bars” nationwide and will be recruiting out of Charlotte, North Carolina, urging kids to apply for the same ROTC program that allowed me the opportunities for which I have been so grateful. After a year, I will return to my original job as an Acquisitions Manager, for which I just got my Top Secret Clearance. I am very excited for all of this change and have been acclimating very well to the reduced humidity and vinegar based barbecue of Charlotte.

I hope all is well on your end, and appreciate everything this organization has allowed me to achieve. God Bless, and God Speed.

Brian – it is really great to hear from you and even better to hear about how well you have been doing.  Funny about cyber and big data….that’s a great field to be in and what our son Brendan is studying at Champlain college in Vermont (more a focus on digital forensics).  We are very proud of you Brian – congrats on your hard work and accomplishments.  As my work allows me to interact with all the military Services, maybe our paths will cross one day.

Many blessings!

October 2017 update:

Good Morning!

Its great to hear from you guys, and I’m ecstatic to tell you that I’ve been doing extremely well. I declared my major this summer in the Smeal school of business to study Management Information Systems (MIS). I also attended Field Training for ROTC this summer at Fort Maxwell, Alabama and Camp Shelby, Mississippi. I excelled there, graduating at the top of my class and earning the “Distinguished Graduate” award. I am currently the Vice President of Scabbard and Blade, which is a tri-service honor society here at Penn State. I’m also the House Manager for my Fraternity, Uniform Room Officer for my detachment, and a Deputy Flight Commander in the Logistics Squadron in the Cadet Wing.  I have been making time for a run every morning and a solid lift in the afternoons every day but gameday, where I am too consumed watching the 7-0 Penn State football team roll over teams to do anything else.

Very Respectfully,
Brian Huntley

Hi Brian – wow…are you busy!  Glad to hear how things are going…and yes, kudos to the PS football team.  They are the team nobody wants to play right now.  Thank you for the update.  Our son Brendan just graduated from high school and is also looking at something in the MIS field.  We will have to keep your contact information close at hand for him if he has any questions.

Many blessings
Eric and Wendi Herzberg

August 2016 update:

I am writing to you this afternoon with an update regarding my life after completion of my freshman year at Penn State. I had a fantastic time my first year between going to football games with my friends, playing on intramural sports teams in the fall and spring, and even being able to climb Mount Nittany before I returned home for summer. It was not just all fun for me though, for I made great academic progress as well. I finished my freshman year with a 3.71 cumulative gpa in 46.5 completed credits, putting me on the dean’s list for both semesters. I have decided that along with majoring in Finance, that I am going to attempt to minor in Spanish, Economics, and Military Sciences. I was contracted by Air Force in the Spring, and joined the Scabbard and Blade honor society within the Air Force ROTC program soon after. I also joined the Phi Eta Sigma honor society in the spring, after my fall gpa qualified me for admittance. I took full advantage of the intramural gym’s location in proximity to my dormitory and worked out 5 times a week throughout the year. This, along with my 5am runs for ROTC ensured that I avoided the freshman 15.

This summer, I am working as a carpenter’s apprentice 40 hours a week in hopes to sharpen my skills in the field of construction. Im hoping this will allow me to be a more effective worker in future mission trips. Speaking of, I am excited to be embarking on my 6th mission trip in July to Kentucky with Appalachian Service Project. I am saddened, however, by the news that the mission trip we had planned to take to Costa Rica has been canceled due to the Zika scare in Central and South America. My job occupies me from 8-4 every day, but beforehand I have been going to the gym from 5:30-7:15 to keep myself in shape. I am also taking two classes at the community college at night that will transfer 3 credits each to my degree audit at Penn State.

I hope this has given you a good look into my life, and feel free to respond with any further questions you may have for me. Thank you again for helping me fund my education and making all of my endeavors possible!

Thanks for the update Brian!  You are certainly keeping busy with good things.  Keep up the great work!
