Michaela is a terrific young lady who has a great future ahead of her. Wendi and I had the opportunity to have dinner with Michaela and her father last month. We really enjoyed our time with them and brought Eric’s 14 year old step-sister Melanie with us. I think Michaela was very gracious with her time and gave Melanie some good advice.

Michaela has plans to help out at the ambulatory care center at Fort Meade this summer as she did last summer. She will attend the University of Nebraska in the fall where she hopes to pursue a path that will lead to her becoming a doctor. Based on what we observed, we’re sure she can do it.

Michaela, we are really impressed with your work ethic and drive. We look forward to becoming pseudo Cornhusker fans in the fall. Best of luck and let’s keep in touch!

June 2013  update:

Hi Mr. and Mrs. Herzberg,

Now that I’m finished with my first year of school, I just wanted to thank you again for the scholarship and the opportunities it has given me.  It really means so much.  I am definitely heading back to Nebraska for my sophomore year (Go Big Red!).  I was accepted onto the varsity swim team as well.  It’s a big challenge but a great experience overall.  School was good as well and I hope to maintain a high GPA next year, even with more difficult classes.

This summer, I am training with the Naval Academy Aquatic club to get ready for next season.  I also have a full-time job with Opportunity Builders, Inc. – a place that employs adults with developmental disabilities both on it’s site and helping some find jobs within the community.  So far its been crazy busy but I’m enjoying it.  I’m also starting to thin about physical therapy school.  I think I’ve decided to go this route instead of medical school.
I hope everything is well with your family.  Tell Melanie I said hello :).

Thank you again!
Michaela

Michaela – we are so glad to hear how well you are doing and that you are figuring out where you want to go in life. This is an exciting journey you are on, one filled with promise and opportunity.  We can’t wait to see where it takes you.  Many blessings to you,

Eric and Wendi Herzberg
