Congratulations to Summer Tambascio who is the 2018 Maryland scholarship awardee! Here are Summer’s immediate plans:

I have decided to enter the field of nursing, with particular interest in neonatal and pediatric care. Another plan for my education that I have in college is to minor in dance. Dance has had a huge impact on my life which is why I can relate Eric’s “calling’ on a much greater scale. I truly believe that I was put on this earth to dance and to help others dance through teaching. If I don’t have dance in my life I would feel lost. It’s funny though because I always knew I loved dance but I never thought that I would love teaching and choreographing just as much. The most important thing that I can thank for this is my internship I participated in senior year. At my internship I volunteered at the dance department and I got to correct kids in their movements, choreograph dances, and learn important tricks for teaching dance from my mentor. This experience along with dancing at my studio and on dance company have allowed for my love for dance to grow tremendously, which is why I want to participate in dance throughout college and beyond. I will use my dance education in college by teaching kids at local dance studios. My hope is to either land a job or volunteer position, while in college, at a nearby dance studio, so that in my free time I can share the same passion for dance with the younger kids.

Although seeming a tad ambitious, double minoring in Spanish and dance would provide a solid base for volunteer work. Spanish is a great asset to have in the nursing community with the growing population of immigrants. You can’t go wrong with learning it because it greatly benefits both sides of the spectrum. It would be ideal to combine my Spanish and nursing degree by studying abroad. My dream situation is to visit a poor Spanish speaking country and be of service by providing healthcare to individuals who can’t afford it. It’s a win-win situation because I can use both of my educations to help the people of the community.

Summer – you have some wonderful dreams and goals….we look forward to staying in touch and tracking your progress. Many blessings!

December 2018 Update:

Hi, its Summer Tambascio! I started college at Stevenson University in Owings Mills Maryland in August and I really enjoyed my first semester spent there. I am commuting there but I only have academic classes Monday, Wednesday, Friday. However, I am a part of the dance line which is part of the marching band, and the dance team so I go to extra rehearsals and games during the week and weekends. I also have two jobs, one working at my old dance studio as an assistant, and one working at a restaurant as a hostess. Although I’m very busy, I’ve found a way to manage my time pretty good and I’m excited for the rest of the year. I’m sorry I couldn’t write sooner. Hope everyone is doing well and you all have a great holiday!

Summer
